Tips On Protecting Handbags

There is no woman around that does not own a handbag or purse. It is a very important accessory that a woman cannot live without. But purses and handbags, like all other possessions we have need to be taken care of so that it will last longer. This is very true especially with leather handbags and purses.

There are many products being offered to consumers at present for this purpose but there are other inexpensive ways to take care of our handbags and purses. You can do this by using common household items and by following the following tips:

After using your handbags, make sure to stuff them with tissue paper or just plain paper so that they will maintain their shapes. To make it easier for you to find things, especially gloves and other items you use during winter, stuff them inside your winter handbags. Have breathable bags handy as these are the ideal bags to use for the storage of leather handbags. This will allow air to flow and prevent mold and mildew to form on your handbags.

Leather purses need to be shined every now and then and for this you can use the inside of a banana peel. Gently rub your purse with it and buff with a cloth that is soft. Olive oil is also comes in handy when you need to make some repairs on your leather handbags or purses. It can soften leather which has become brittle and hard and if there is a stain and you need to cover it with a marker or pen with matching color, a dab of olive oil will make it shiny.

To care for cloth handbags, store them in plastic wrap to prevent moths from getting in and destroying the cloth. Like the leather handbags, purses made with fabric also need to be cleaned regularly. A well cared for handbag will go a long way and you will enjoy using it if it retains its original beauty.

There is one thing you need to remember though, do not place your handbag on the floor. You must know that floors are very dirty and putting your handbag on it can be harmful as there are a lot of bacteria that can be transferred to your handbag.
